The emergence of Android in the payment space has been reviving and long overdue. With the recent strategy shift of hardware manufacturers to ditch their old, clunky, proprietary payment shells, we are seeing the long sought after flexibility and ease to power payments under the control and expertise of the integrator.
The Android operating system in EMV payments provides stability and familiarity integrators love. Being able to use standard Android commands and functions while removing PCI DSS compliance gives us and integrated systems unmatched capabilities. Although still in its infancy stages with outdated browsers and limitations on full reign of the device, the abilities and flexibility outweigh the bugs in version 1.0 of an attractive global payment infrastructure.
eConduit has added several Android devices: Clover Mini, Clover Station, Clover Flex, Pax A920, Pax A80, Pax A60 and Exadigm N5. With stress testing, live beta accounts and future enhancements maximizing usage of all Android functions, we predict Android to be the dominant payment application for years to come.
